Technical staff from the R&D&i department of Misturas gave a presentation about the usefulness of the ground-penetrating radar for the analysis and survey of transport infrastructures and subsoil conditions at the recent Euro-American Congress Rehabend 2016. This technical meeting, under the slogan ‘Construction Pathology, Rehabilitation Technology and Heritage Management’, where presenters from seven European and American countries participated, took place in Burgos.
The staff from Misturas was accompanied by researchers from the University of Vigo, with whom they had previously participated in a successful research project about the application of technologies to the management and survey of infrastructures, funded by the Center for Technological and Industrial Development (CDTI).
By analyzing different examples of the use of the ground-penetrating radar (GPR), researchers proved that it is a non-destructive and reliable technique, effective for the analysis and prospection of layers of surfaces and leveled areas in the fields of civil works and construction.
The technical staff from Misturas highlighted the special relevance of this technology for quality assurance in civil engineering works and for the localization of buried elements, as well as for the analysis of infrastructures during the first phases of construction or for the detection of potential pathologies in roads and filling areas: gaps, cracks, cavities, preferential paths of water streams…
