The new A Laxe pilgrim hostel in Vilasantar (A Coruña) opens its doors

The new hostel in Vilasantar (A Coruña), built by Misturas for the Regional Department of Culture and Tourism of the Xunta de Galicia, opened this Easter, welcoming pilgrims who travel the Northern Way to Santiago, on the occasion of the extension of the Holy Year of Compostela up to 2022 and coinciding with the beginning of the peak season of the Xacobeo (Holy Year).

Located in the former rectory house of A Laxe, this hostel has been completely refurbished in order to enhance its value and provide new uses to emblematic buildings of Galician cultural heritage.

This renovated building covers 326 m2 of usable area, divided into two floors containing general dormitories, an adapted dormitory for people with limited mobility, a kitchen, a dining room, a living area and general and adapted bathrooms. There is also an auxiliary building where other services for pilgrims are located: laundry, drying room and bicycle storage.

These new facilities increase by 30 new places the public network of Pilgrims’ hostels in The Way of Saint James. On March 21, these facilities were visited by the Vice-president of the Xunta de Galicia, Mr. Alfonso Rueda, who verified the completion of the work carried out by Misturas, as a previous step to its opening to the public.
